Laundry Renovations FAQs

How do laundry renovations usually get started?

Athans Building Services starts by discussing how the laundry is used and what needs to change. A site assessment helps identify existing layout constraints and the carpentry work required. From there, the proposed changes can be planned around the room, storage needs and any plumbing or electrical work.

What carpentry can improve my laundry's layout?

Carpentry can make better use of available space with fitted cabinets, shelves, broom storage or a linen cupboard. Benchtop supports, doors, trims and skirtings can also be updated to suit the new layout. The right changes depend on the room dimensions and how you need the laundry to function.

Can you prepare spaces for appliances and sinks?

Yes. Laundry renovation carpentry can include creating or adjusting openings for washing machines and dryers, and preparing suitable spaces for sinks. Athans Building Services plans these areas around the intended appliance positions, with plumbing and electrical requirements considered as part of the renovation.

Do laundry renovations include moisture resistant materials?

Moisture resistant substrates can be installed where they’re appropriate for the laundry’s conditions and planned finishes. Existing wall framing can also be repaired or replaced if needed. The materials and preparation are assessed for each space, helping provide a suitable base for the renovation work.

Why might plumbing and electrical work need coordination?

Sink, washing machine and dryer positions can affect plumbing connections, power points and appliance clearances. Coordinating this work with the carpentry helps ensure the layout is practical before cabinets, benchtops or finishes are fitted. Athans Building Services can plan the carpentry around the required plumbing and electrical work.

Can you improve laundry access to outdoor areas?

Laundry renovation carpentry can include improving access to an outdoor area, such as adjusting a doorway or fitting a door where the layout allows. The existing opening, wall framing and access requirements need to be assessed first. Athans Building Services completes laundry renovation work in Cheltenham and nearby South East Melbourne suburbs.
